Top level hardware-software units and modern procedures of mathematic modeling utilized at IERP let us qualitatively and comprehensively investigate the structures of diverse intricately built geological units. The Irkutsk Electric Prospecting Company offers services in surveying targets by different methods of electric prospecting, e.g. TEM, low-depth TEM, ??S, VES to obtain data on geological settings under complex physic-geological conditions. Some instances are given below.
For the past years the structure of the Priolkhonye (Baikal region) was investigated to depth 3 – 5 km by TEM and ??? sounding; the region was proved to be a unique geological structure characterized by contrast geoelectric properties. Electromagnetic fields delineate 2D and 3D heterogeneous objects and define the non-horizontal boundaries of environment division.
Because ancient rocks are well outcropped and occur in uniclinal manner, it is possible to survey the block structure in detail. Alternation of zones with a high electric resistivity (isolators) and high-conductive sites favor effective testing of equipment and application of electric prospecting methods in natural settings.
The other vivid example is the Patom crater located in the taiga in the north of Irkutsk region, its origin much discussed and argued about by the scientists, who put forward hypotheses on meteorite and volcanic genesis. In summer 2008, the employees of IERP were involved in the joint scientific expedition to the Patom highland and for the first time they performed measurements by TEM and ??? sounding. Acquired data were included into geoelectric model of the Patom crater; they helped to specify existing hypotheses on crater origin.
Thus, some geological assignments are properly fulfilled by methods of electric prospecting accomplished by modern hardware-software units when exploring intricately built structures.
